Kevin Gleason’s second full-time TCR International Series campaign gets underway in full view of Formula 1 teams, drivers and fans at the Bahrain International Circuit this weekend (1-3 April) and the American racer has a strong desire to carry his winning form from last year to the Middle Eastern curtain-raiser.

Gleason was announced as one third of WestCoast Racing’s 2016 TCR International driver line-up earlier this month.

The young American was re-signed by the super-successful Swedish squad after making a big impression during his first ever global campaign in 2015, when he consistently beat more experienced rivals to race wins, podium finishes and pole positions at mostly unfamiliar circuits.

As a result, Gleason stayed in contention for the TCR International Drivers’ title until the dying embers of the season and he arrives at the Bahrain International Circuit for the opening instalment of 2016 with the intention of bettering his debut TCR outing of last year, when he stunned the opposition by qualifying on pole position.

With TCR International holding a highly coveted spot on the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix support bill, Gleason recognises that translating pole position into a podium finish or even a race win would hold a lot of cachet.

“I’m really excited to be racing in the Middle East for the first time and in support of the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix,” said Gleason. “To be back with WestCoast Racing is fantastic and I’m hoping to not only emulate my TCR debut from last year, but improve on it by converting pole position into a podium finish. My skills in a touring car have more than a season’s development now, so I won’t be quite as generous to my competitors as I once was.”
