Off the back of the runner-up position at the 24 Hours of Spa, Nicky Catsburg heads to round three of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone this coming weekend (18 – 19 August) confident he’ll secure a strong result with BMW Team MTEK.
Having achieved its goal of finishing the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the new BMW M8 GTE, the development programme continues with the German marque seeking its first podium of the season at Silverstone.
Last month Nicky took part in the 24 Hours of Spa, finishing a fighting second in what was an impressive BMW one-two. Now he is looking forward to returning to WEC competition at Silverstone.
“We’ve completed a rollout of the car this weekend near Munich, just to make sure everything is as it should be,” Nicky explained. “The whole car has been totally stripped down and rebuilt after the 24 Hours of Le Mans in readiness for this weekend’s race.
“Silverstone is one of my favourite tracks, but I’ve not been there in a couple of years,” he continued. “I’m really looking forward to racing there again; It’s my first time at this track with the M8 and with my full-season teammate Martin Tomczyk. He’s not driven at Silverstone in some time having spent so many years in the DTM, but I’m confident that we can both get back into the rhythm of the track quickly.
“At Le Mans, while the result wasn’t what we wanted, we did show that we have really good potential still to come from the car and I really hope and believe that we can show well at Silverstone. It’s a high-speed flowing track and I really think we’ll have a good shot a good result there and get our first podium in WEC. It’s never easy, but we’re all very much looking forward to it!”
