Aidan Read is to return to Europe and GT racing and will again compete in the ultra-competitive ADAC GT Masters Series in 2020, building on his standout debut season in the German championship last year where he claimed the runner-up position in the Junior title.

The 21-year-old Australian star joins Schubert Motorsport, one of the biggest names in BMW Customer Racing, for the seven-round championship and will partner up with BMW Works driver Joel Eriksson in the team’s BMW M6 GT3.

The Swede has a strong record in single-seaters, taking second position in the FIA Formula 3 championship in 2017 and at the Macau Grand Prix the following year.

The team, based at Oschersleben, has proven to be race winners since 2012 with six pole positions and ten victories whilst going on to take the team title in 2015 with Bruno Spengler and Dominik Baumann.

Following the conclusion of last year’s GT Masters Championship, Aidan has been busy competing in LMP2 category of the four-round Asian Le Mans Series, claiming three podium positions and a fastest lap en route to third position in the championship.

Having tested with Schubert Motorsport recently at Portimão, Aidan is looking forward to the new season which gets underway at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben 24-26 April and concludes in October at Sachsenring.

“I’m eager to return to GT Masters, this year with Schubert an in a BMW,” Aidan began. “Schubert have a high level of preparation and the M6 GT3 has great potential. My feeling was positive from my first laps in the car and I am confident the package will perform well. I am excited to drive alongside Joel Eriksson. He is a very well-established Pro at BMW and will be a strong teammate.

“I’ll be testing in April in preparation for round one in Oschersleben. I have come a long way as a driver thanks to my rookie year in GT Masters last year. I know what to expect. By returning to the championship I hope to show my progress with the necessary experience from 2019.”
