Shaun Goff, who has over a decade of experience in motor racing, has been at the helm of the Optimum Motorsport since 2012 and saw his outfit to the 2013 and 2016 British GT4 titles and the 2018 GT3 Championship. The Wakefield-based team has also taken the top step of the SP3 class podium in the 24H Dubai and 12H Mugello.
The team stepped up to GT3-specification machinery for the first time in 2016, fielding the first new-generation customer Audi R8 LMS in rounds of the British GT Championship and CREVENTIC 24H Series alongside its existing Ginetta GT4 and GT5 programmes.
Notably, both Mike Robinson and Graham Johnson prevailed in their second full-time British GT season with Optimum Motorsport, as the teammates took their Ginetta G55 to the top in 2016’s hugely competitive GT4 title race. This was followed up in 2017 with the Pro-Am title.
For 2018, Optimum Motorsport returned to the GT3 ranks, with Flick Haigh and Jonny Adam. In a stunning debut season with the Aston Martin Vantage GT3, the team clinched the drivers’ title at the final round having proven race-winning speed at multiple rounds of the championship, and great consistency throughout the season. In addition, the team competed in the GT Open with Oliver Wilkinson and Bradley Ellis, taking multiple podiums.
Optimum returned to British GT to defend their GT3 title in 2019 with Ollie and Bradley in the Silver Class. Outright victory at Spa-Francorchamps was the highlight of a successful season where the team also fielded two GT4 entries in the championship. In GT Open, Ollie was upgraded to a Pro driver early in the season and was joined by Jonny Adam at Red Bull Ring where he took the overall victory.
The team are aiming to compete in British GT and other SRO-sanctioned championships in 2020.
